14 Charged in Bank Account Takeover Scheme That Used SIM Swaps and Corrupt Insiders

Federal prosecutors in Dallas have charged 14 people over a bank account takeover scheme that, according to the indictment, combined stolen personal data, fake IDs, SIM swaps and corrupt insiders at banks and phone companies. The alleged ringleader, Muhamed Dieye, 35, of Dallas, kept a spreadsheet with details on nearly 3,000 people who together held more than $373 million, the US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas said on November 3, 2026.

That figure is what the victims had in their accounts, not what was taken. The release doesn’t say how much the group actually stole.
